We are currently preparing a slew of new music including several music videos and documentary style looks into the creation of some of the songs and the stories behind them… Until then, we wanted to give you some new music something to hold you over, The Wellington Sessions.
Available for free(limited time) or a price of your choosing.
The Wellington Sessions took place in Traverse City, Michigan at the home of our good friend, Brett Karis in 2009. I could write a ton about Brett, but will wait to do an entire story on him until his book comes out. Brett has been one of the biggest supporters of us and our art since we met in back in 2007. We turned his living room into a recording studio and were in Traverse City for about thirty hours total. Arriving on a Wednesday morning and leaving the following afternoon.
Brett and Nixon pulled vinyl from the Karis record collection and I wrote as the beats were created. All of the lyrics except for those to “Hypothermia” were written in that living room. Ryan K. Wilson and Molly Bouwsma added the angelic harmonies to the “Hypothermia” chorus following the Traverse sessions.
Another friend of 5iveit, Jason Kott(Brent James & The Contraband) was living in the Wellington house at the time and plays bass on each of the sessions four songs. He was coming and going as we recorded the tracks and laid down his bass parts a half hour before we had to drive home. He literally did one take with each of his bass guitars, per song. What you hear is exactly what he played. Beastly.
During the trip we also had a show at Union Street Station that inspired the creation of “Doing Too Much”. The details of that tale would be better told in person.
The artwork for the project is a photo taken by Joe Forsythe of an original painting by Josh “Juan” Fifarek. Photo by Joe Forsythe. Juan’s painting hung on the wall in the living room where these recordings were created.
We hope you enjoy The Wellington Sessions and we are eager to share the main course with you very soon, it’s cooking now. We begin shooting a video for, “All About Progression”, a collaboration with Willie The Kid, tomorrow morning.

Just in time for a music mix I am working on for my 35th birthday party! Hypothermia is just beautiful and My Window is friggen dope! (you guys made awesome use of that Donovan sample).
Can’t wait to hear the collab with Willie The Kid
Thanks Wayne. Glad you enjoyed Wellington Sir. I’m confident you will love, All About Progression, our track with Willie… shot first part of the visual today, so sick. Happy 35th! When’s your birthday?
Thanks man. Birthday is the 24th, but celebrating/mourning/contemplating/forgetting that I am getting old on the 27th with friends, whiskey and good music. I put My Window in mix between some classic Lupe – Emperor’s Soundtrack and Kendrick Lamar’s Rigamortus.
I will be on the lookout for that video.
