Mick Luter and I met in 2003 in New York. I was interning at Def Jam and he was living in Far Rockaway with the late, Stack Bundles, working on music and networking with industry executives. This was right before the release of College Dropout and as The Black Album was being created. At the time Mick had given me a copy of his album, My Word, along with some unreleased material and it immediately impressed me. Mick is from Chicago, we met thru a mutual friend Walter and have kept in touch since.
Mick has always been an extremely intricate and descriptive writer, his latest release, The Myth, does nothing but reaffirm his skill. Presented in association with Fakeshore Drive and ImSoChi, it seems like others are taking notice of Luter’s talent and showing much needed support.
My initial intention was to write a review to go along with the download, but as with most of Mick’s music, it feels like I need to listen some more before I can do his words justice. Until then, please enjoy this project, make it the soundtrack to your weekend. 5iveit.
