Rick Chyme-ElevenTwentyOhSeven

It was 2007 and my collaboration with The Southpaw Players was becoming more serious. We were offered a show at The Orbit Room on the Night Before Thanksgiving and took it even though we didn’t have a drummer. Soon after Jacob Schaub joined the group and we had been playing some smaller shows any where we could in preparation for our November 21st gig.

I remember I was sick and stressed in the days leading up to the show. This was recorded at about two in the morning following our last rehearsal. If you listen, you can hear me switching between things I had written and freestyles, feeling confident, but also thinking about our unknown futures.

Another memory that comes to mind, is playing this for a group of people following the show and describing how it had been written. We were at a house I was renting, in what would eventually become known as a black mold infested basement studio we had set up. All of the lights were off and people were celebrating, great night.

Click HERE and you can see the first couple songs from the show I’m talking about, just watched myself and am amazed at the vast difference in our performance here compared to our “last show”. Hahaha

A GIFT FOR YOU-Southpaw Players Archives- Walk the Plank(LIVE)

25 12 2010

I stumbled on this video this morning and realized it had never been made “public”. Audio is from cameras, I’ll try to post an updated version with better sound eventually. Until then, here is your holiday gift from 5iveit.com Created by our friends at Cannon Productions.. Special thanks to Sischo answering Christmas morning calls from me.

This video is awesome because it shows how much the crowd has an impact on the live show….

Southpaw Archives…The Basement Show. 40 min set recorded live.

15 04 2010

Here’s a LINK to a 40 minute live set by my former band, The Southpaw Players playing at The Basement Show on WIDR, Western Michigan University’s Station. They have a pretty solid room set up for live performance and you just play it like a normal show, except edited.

A couple of songs get changed up including a freestyle during “Microphone”, after I forget lyrics I’ve performed hundreds of times. During “Round and Around” we decide to speed up the tempo mid song, which is pretty awesome… my favorite part of the set occurs during the last song, listen close for “como?”

The picture above was taken by Nicole LaRae during our first trip to NY as a band.

If you want to get right to our set, scroll over about 1/5 of the way. 5iveit.

New Music- THE SOUTHPAW PLAYERS “THE DEUCE”

19 09 2008

I am a proud member of the band, The Southpaw Players, we are currently in the studio working on a massively insane album… Here’s a track we recently recorded called, THE DEUCE, feel free to download it and spread it to whoever you possibly can. Not sure if this will make the album but it’s already being pidgeon holed as… BANK ROBBING MUSIC.

The dirty version is soon to come, I’m just not sure if you are ready for it yet.
